Dental Education Lecture: Long-lasting Filling
One of the most often asked questions by my patients is how long a filling lasts.
In fact it is the most difficult to answer. It depends mainly on how big your cavity is before filling. It also depends upon how tight your bite is and what type of food you eat. If your bite is tight and you love to eat hard food, filling may not last long. Last is luck.
Mr. Chen remains to be our patient for long time. Five years ago, he requested repairing one of his front teeth on the top (Fig.1). It had been chipped several times. Each time filling did not last long.
After the repair, he was very pleased (Fig.2 and 3). More important the filling stays for quite a while and the color remains unchanged (Fig.4).
