Fig.5: To place the immediate implant, no incision is needed.  As mentioned above, the back to front dimension of the socket is much larger than the side to side one (white circle).  After the implant is placed, there is a hole in the front of the implant.  So incision is made to move the gums backward to close the hole to prevent food trapment.  Sutures are placed to hold the gums in place.  Return to main article
