Fig.1 (occlusal view): Two weeks post placement of a tissue-level implant. An infection is mainly localized in the mesiobuccal aspect (^), where the autogenous bone graft is placed. It suggests that the graft is contaminated, either from the contaminated socket or from harvesting procedure.
Nowadays, all types of bone graft are mixed in a dap pen dish containing Clindamycin.
If the socket is suspected to have been infected even though it looks normal, implant placement should be delayed. Let the body clear the infection slowly. An antibiotic should be taken pre- and post-implant placement.
