To take photos for posterior occlusion, cheek reflection mirror could be used. But it is tricky.
Direct photography is much easier by using two separate cheek retractors. It is better to use one big and one small retractors. The bigger one is used to retract the cheek as back as possible, whereas the smaller one or a mouse mirror is used to hold the upper and lower lips separate.
