Prepare the instruments:
1. Mathieu Narrow Tip
2. Mathieu Wide Tip
3. Distal End Cutter
4. Ligature Director
5. Upper and lower .019 x .025 braided Archwire
6. ¼ medium elastics
7. Alastiks
Procedure:
1. Remove the old wires.
2. Use alcohol to clean up the old one.
3. Pick up the new wire from the Nitanium. (.019 x.025)
4. Cut the upper and lower archwire distal to each cuspid.
5. Put the Alastiks on each bracket.
6. Use the distal end cutter to cut the extra wire out.
7. If necessary, use elastics in order to get the bite locked in. Use 5/16 elastics on the posterior teeth from the first molar to the second premolar.
8. After using the elastics, check bite deepening, and rotations.
9. When everything is perfect, remove the upper bands and brackets from cuspid and use the hand piece bur block to clean all the cement from the teeth.
10. Polish the teeth.
11. With the six anterior brackets in place, with no wires, take an alginate impression for a Hawley retainer.
12. Prevent the rotations of the six anteriors by replacing segmental archwire from cuspid to cuspid.
13. Remove the upper anterior brackets and put in the Hawley retainer. Have the patient wear the retainer 24 hours a day for six months and after only night time wear. After six months the patient can discontinue wearing the upper retainer.
