Crown Cementation

  1. Cementation pouch, or basic, +hemostat, spatula, curet and articulating paper holder
  2. Bur bloc, high and slow-speed handpieces (not opened)
  3. 3-way syringes (2), saliva and high volume (if necessary) suctions, 2-3 cotton rolls, 1 2x2
  4. Cut a piece of dental floss and tie two knots in one end
  5. Ketac or temp bond cement
  1. If doctor is not ready, remove temporary crown using hemostat.  Twist and wriggle the crown a little bit, gradually increase force, and luxate occlusally
  2. Remove cement from the tooth with explorer and clean the tooth with 3-way syringe
  3. If the patient feels very sensitive to air or water, load syringe with needle and Mepivacaine (light) or Xylocaine (red)
  4. Try in permanent crown
  5. Check bite with articulation paper
  6. Check proximal contact by passing dental floss to doctor.  Help doctor to hold the crown while floss is being used
  7. Help doctor suction.  Pass cotton roll for isolation.  After the doctor confirms the fitness of the crown, pass a 2x2.  The crown will be dried with air by doctor
  8. Rinse the tooth and suction if necessary.
  9. Only after you receive the dried crown, can you start to mix Ketac.  Apply Ketac to the inner surface of the crown, particularly margin
  10. Hold the crown on the mesial and distal contact surfaces (usually flat surfaces) so that when you pass it to doctor, he can hold it on the buccal and lingual surfaces
  11. Pass a cotton roll or bite sloth (white) for seating
  12. The most important thing for you to do during the crown cementation is TO PASS THE KNOT-TIED DENTAL FLOSS TO DOCTOR NO MATTER WHETHER HE FORGETS OR NOT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CROWN IS SEATED.  The doctor uses the floss to remove extra cement between the teeth before the cement completely sets.  If we forget this step, we will ruin our whole day.  It is extremely difficult to remove cement between the teeth when it sets
  13. After this important step and bite check, you may proceed to remove excess cement.  Thanks
