Intra- vs. Extra-oral Cementation of Bicon Crown
An offset shouldered abutment is inserted to an osteointegrated implant (Fig.1: A). Excess cement (Fig.2 >) is detected following intra-oral cementation of a Zirconia crown (C). The crown/abutment unit has to be removed from the implant (Fig.3). Fig.4 shows the crown/abutment unit with excess cement removed.
The abutment in Fig.5 (A) is angulated non-shouldered. There is no bone resorption. The crown margin will be close to the crest bone. To avoid retention of excess cement, the crown is cemented to the abutment extraorally (Fig.6).
Excess cement causes periimplantitis.
