A 52-year-old lady is a dental phobic.  The upper left central incisor with a fistula (Fig.1 <) is buccodistally displaced, probably due to severe bone loss (Fig.2). 

The purplish labial gingiva of the tooth #9 (as compared to the gingiva over the right central incisor) feels soft, unsupported.  When the tooth is extracted, the labial plate is found to have been lost.
