The extracted root is long cone-shaped (Fig.1 (distal view),1' (lingual view)).  The socket (Fig.2 (illustration) S) is narrow bucco (B) -palatally (P).

The chronically (8 months) exposed pulpal chamber (C) and pulp (P) leads to apical infection (Fig.2 red).  *: palatal plateau (estimated level in Fig.1).

The base of the palatal bone is so wide by palpation that there will be plenty of room to change trajectory of osteotomy, which will be discussed later.
