Post Socket Preservation

A 55-year-old lady had the tooth #4 extracted with socket preservation 4-5 months ago.  The ridge does not look too narrow.  Use a 3 mm tissue punch from the DIO 1 piece implant kit for access.  Also prepare #15 blade.  Since bone density within the healing socket seems low (Fig.1), use bone expanders, until 2-3 sizes smaller than the designed implant (4.5x14 mm, Fig.2).  Pilot drill at 10 mm and take PA.  After using the last bone expander, taken another PA.  What is the real reason using bone expanders in this case, since the ridge is not so narrow?
