Immediate Implant in the 3rd Molar

A 62-year-old man (CJ) had food impaction between the tooth #1 and the implant at #2 six months post cementation of the crown at #2. At the most recent visit (1.5 years post cementation), symptoms and signs of infection around the tooth #1 appear to get worse (Fig.1 *).  The patient accepted treatment plan (#1 extraction and immediate implant, Fig.2).

After extraction, the socket is curetted thoroughly, the implant threads cleaned with Titanium brush, and the wound treated with Metronidazole.  It appears that a 4.5x10 mm bone-level implant is appropriate for the site (Fig.2).
