Long Term Missing Molar

A 54-year-old woman has lost the tooth #30 and 31 for more than 20 years (Fig.1).  An implant will be placed at the site of #30 first.  If there is food impaction between #30 and 32 after crown cementation, the tooth #32 will be extracted and an implant will be placed at the site of #31.

The ridge at #30 is pointed (Fig.3 (B: buccal; 3: the opposing tooth #3).  After ridge reduction, a 4x7 mm Magicore with at least 3 mm cuff is to be inserted as buccal as possible to avoid perforating into the Submandibular Fossa.  On the other hand, ridge reduction may not be indicated in this case because of limited height.  BEB is preferable.  Watch for the opposing tooth, which may be supraerupted.
