12 mm Offset at #19

Hi, Jennifer: Out of curiosity, which factor decides o use 12 mm offset?  Because of the thick gingiva?  With 12 mm offset, pointed drill appears to go down all the way.  Without offset, pointed drill goes to the first line (for example JY Lee)?  Thanks.

Hi Dr. Wei,
There're several reasons for raising the level of the metal sleeve so called offset. And like you said, thick soft tissue could be one reason for that. When the interdental space is narrow due to the tight contact we raise the level as well.
And for the point drill, you do not have to worry about the line. Because of the tapered part of the drill, you can drill all the way down until it naturally meets the bone and stops.
