An immediate provisional is fabricated to close the socket (Fig.8).  Its margin is intentionally inserted palatally to the gingival margin.  Once the wound heals (~3 week postop), the provisional margin will be shortened with its margin slightly palatal to the gingival one.

The buccal plate appears to collapse 1 month postop (cortical plate graft apparently more appropriate in this case); the margin of the provisional is trimmed so that the gingiva may grow incisally (Fig.9).
