Fig.4 (intraop (during bone expansion)): 3.0 mm expander (E) at the depth of 14 mm.
The decision to use bone expanders is predetermined by preop PA and confirmed when 1.6 mm pilot drill is being used.
Once penetrating the cortex, there is low resistance using the pilot drill, suggesting that the cancellous bone is soft.
