Buccal view of the extracted tooth #3 (Fig.1) and of socket impression of the affected tooth (Fig.3) shows that the palatal (P) socket is larger than its root, suggesting more severe bone loss palatally than buccally.  In fact the palatal plate is lower than the buccal one.  Therefore the osteoomy will be initiated in the buccal socket.
