After extraction and curettage, osteotomy at the site of #2 is initiated by osteotomes (2-4 mm in diameter).  The smallest osteotome (white arrow) tends to slide buccally (B) (Fig.9 CT coronal section of socket).  *: palatal bone, which is longer and thicker than its counterpart (buccal bone).  As osteotomy increases its diameter by osteotomes, it is gradually moving and/or tilting buccally (red arrow).
