Osteotomy increases in diameter with depth at 8 mm (Fig.5 (5.3 mm tap drill). The Inferior Alveolar Canal (IAC, yellow dashed line) is indistinct during surgery. Instead the red dashed line is regarded as the superior border of IAC. Because ambiguity of IAC, a shorter implant is chosen (6 mm).
In fact, the zone between the red and yellow dashed lines has spongy bone. That is why the parallel pin can be inserted deeper than the osteotomy.
