Implants Replaced Failing Bridges
A 39-year-old woman has mobile FPDs at #2-6 (Fig.1,2) and 18-21 (Fig.3,4). Panoramic X-ray (Fig.1,3) was taken 10 years ago, while PAs (Fig.2,4) were taken lately. The abutment at #6 appears to be fractured (Fig.2 >), while that at #18 has 2nd caries (Fig.4 *). Removal of the FPDs determines salvageability of the abutments. The one at #6 may need RCT, B-U and crown or extraction/implant. In any event, implants will be placed at #3, 4, 18 and 20. To avoid the Inferior Alveolar Canal and Mental Loop, the implants will be as lingual as possible (Fig.3,4). For surgical and restorative stents, take Alginate impression as soon as the patient arrives.
