Post-Extraction Bone Loss Without Bone Graft

A 54-year-old man has crack at the tooth #19 (Fig.1).  The pain gets worse when he returns to home country.  The tooth is extracted without bone graft.  Four months later, the buccolingual width reduces from 10.1 mm to 5.6 mm (Fig.2).  A shorter implant (13 vs. 10 mm) has to be placed and also deeper (compare Fig.3,4) with higher chance of screw loosening.
