In fact the buccal plate of the socket is intact (Fig.2).  The buccopalatal dimension of the socket is significantly wider than the mesiodistal one.  The narrowest abutment of a 2-piece implant is 4 mm, whereas the one of a 1-piece is ~2.5 mm.
