Diagnosis of Buccal Root Fracture
A 71-year-old woman with RPDs develops a fistula buccal to the tooth #5 (Fig.1). The buccal root seems to be fractured as indicated by arrowheads in Fig.2,3 (coronal and sagittal sections). The diagnosis of the fracture is confirmed by the abrupt change in density shown in Profile and the coronal section in Fig.4. Three-dimensional image demonstrates bone over the root surface of the teeth 6 and 8 (Fig.5 *), as compared to no bone over the the buccal root of the tooth #5. Due to financial constraint, the buccala root amputation is proposed as a treatment option. Is it viable?
