How to Place Implant in a Wide Mesiodistal Space with Short Bone and Narrow Ridge?
A 62-year-old man requests implant placement at the site of #29 with wide mesiodistal space (9 mm, larger than a premolar (7 mm), smaller than a molar (11-12 mm), Fig.1). Due to presence of the Mental Nerve (red dashed line), the bone is ~ 12 mm in height. The ridge is narrow and appears barely to be able to hold a 2.5x10 mm 1-piece implant (Fig.2 CBCT coronal section at the Mental Foramen). The latter is 1 mm from the Mental Nerve. Can this implant sustain mastication? What should be done?
