How to Correct Cross Bite?
In spite of several warnings against orthodontic treatment for a 47-year-old man with chronic periodontitis, he requests it once more time before UL1 implant restoration. How to correct UR2 cross bite (Fig.1-4)? The number in pencil represents the width of each tooth in mm. For example the width of UR1 is 9 mm, whereas that of UL1 is 7 mm (Fig.2). The pencil line represents the facial midline and the future upper dental midline. Ideally the UL1 should be moved distally ~ 1 mm.
Since UL2 is the most severely affected periodontically, it will be not moved orthodontically except mesial reduction for 1 mm (Fig.6,7). It allows distalization of UL1 for 1 mm. In fact the provisional will be modified after changing to an angled abutment (most likely). UR1-3 will be reduced 1 mm each proximal surface, whereas the mesial surface of UR4 will be reduced 1 mm (Fig.5,6).
