Taps and Dummy Implants Form Osteotomy
Six months post cementation of #30 implant crown, the 40-year-old woman (CY) returns with chief complaint of lower left abscess. The buccal furca at #18 has inflamed tissue with large radiolucency (Fig.1 *). To avoid the Inferior Alveolar Canal (Fig.2 red dashed line), use taps (most likely starting with 5 mm one) and dummy implants to form osteotomy after extraction and granulation tissue removal. The definitive implant is expected to be 6.5x11 mm. Switch to Tatum implants if the largest IBS is unable to achieve primary stability.
