Preparation for Sinus Lift

  1. Digital X-ray: PA with measurement of height, to be sent by email; preferably CT preop and immediately postop to show that sinus lift increases bone height, to be sent by regular mail
  2. Model: if there are two or more missing teeth, take impression, wax up and fabrication of suction down surgical stent.  Even better fabricate calcium sulphate stent and take Carestream CT with limited focal field while the patient is wear the stent.  It helps decide whether there is bone apical to the tooth to be restored
  3. Prophy or scaling and root planing
  4. Oral antibiotic and Chlorhexidine mouth rinse 1-2 days prior to surgery
  5. Oral sedative (Diazepam (Valium) 5 mg or Triazolam (Halcion) 0.25 mg) 1 tab at night before surgery and 1 tab 1 hr before surgery.  Prepare Oximeter in the operatory (if you do not have it, I will bring it).  Ask somebody to give the patient a ride home when the surgery is finished.  Ask the patient to come to office early, sign surgical consent and then take 1 tab of oral sedative
  6. Bone expansion kit.  Do I need to bring my own?
  7. Bone calipers, bone graft, collagen membrane, periotomes, several mallets, small head surgical curettes (Lucas 84, Miller 10)
  8. Molded face mask, which is easy to hold loupes (Fig)
  9. 8,9 mm healing abutments, angled abutments
